The primary responsibility for the Project Manager is with the WED Clean Tech project as well as other related projects for the Centre.? The project manager position will oversee the planning, implementation, and tracking and reporting of all activities associated with the WED Clean Tech project.?This position will also undertake similar duties for additional related projects currently underway within the Centre for Smart Transportation (CST).

CST is a unique research group housed in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta. CST works to be a world-class transportation research, education, and service group. The CST's guiding vision is to improve transportation mobility, safety and sustainability in cold-climate regions, such as Alberta. By partnering with industry, government and academic agencies, the CST aims to serve local and global transportation needs, while advancing research and technology development and transfer.


About the WED Clean Tech Project
Using Canada's first Connected Vehicle (CV) Test Bed Network, this project is in the process of develop and test environmental applications of CV technology in simulation and on the roadway. CV technologies provide fast and reliable communication among vehicles, infrastructure, and other road users. Enabling vehicles and roadway infrastructure to 'talk' to each other using CV technologies offers the potential to improve vehicle safety, increase traffic management efficiency, and reduce the impact of transportation on the environment. This project aims to pioneer the use of Eco CV clean technology, support leading edge research, training of Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP), and promote the use of clean technology in Western Canadian transportation.

Duties:

  • Define the scope of the project in collaboration with the research team
  • Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project
  • Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc.) required to complete the project
  • Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities
  • Review the project schedule with the research and others who will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required
  • Execute the project according to the project plan
  • Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project
  • Manage the project budget for this project and related projects in conjunction with the CST director
  • Oversee the research personnel on this project and related projects in conjunction with the CST director
  • Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project
  • Review the quality of the work completed with the research team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project scope, timelines, budgets, etc.
  • Undertake interim and final reporting duties for the project and related projects for the research team and stakeholders
  • Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • University Degree in Engineering and/or Business Administration. Additional training in project management, wireless communication/IT/transportation engineering would be an asset.
  • 5+ years progressively responsible experience in an engineering environment, including experience dealing with regulatory agencies, elected officials, the general public and the media.
  • Formal practical training in various aspects of transportation including traffic engineering, transportation planning, transportation research and ?ITS.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary groups and being involved in complex projects, which includes managing budgets, staff and external consultants
  • Proven ability to think strategically and work effectively in an environment prone to ongoing and emergent issues management and changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability in project design, management, and completion
  • Ability to provide technical or administrative presentations
  • Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, negotiation, and customer service skills Professional designations
  • Project Management Professional designation
  • Professional designation in relevant field of work (e.g. Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng) and/or equivalent)

Proficiency in the use of computers for:

In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position has an approximate appointment of?one year with the possibility of extension and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at เล่น บา คา ร่า ได้ เงิน แสนFaculty & Staff Benefits with an annual salary range of $58,210 - $72,770.
